For many, mastering Quranic calligraphic expressions is a means of Islamic mysticism that uncovers hidden dimensions of the cosmos during Ramadan, the holy month. In addition to memorising Quranic texts and reciting them out, this spiritual craft would connect the seeker and practitioner not just to scripture, but also to other forms of contemplation.
Abda Fayyaz a Pakistani artist who has been actively practising calligraphy for the says , “I take satisfaction in the fact that I am amongst these young artists, reflecting a blend of modern and contemporary art and old techniques. ”
For almost five years, Rahman has been practising calligraphy. “Ramadan is the most important month for each Muslim,” he explains. It’s a month when we get our wishes, such as forgiveness for our misdeeds, granted. During the holy month, I will try to complete at least 5-7 calligraphy pieces.”
