Vincent Bal, a Belgian filmmaker, and visual artist, has gained widespread recognition for his innovative artwork centered around shadows cast by ordinary objects. The inspiration for Bal’s series came unexpectedly while he was working on a film script that never came to fruition. He noticed that the shadow cast by his teacup bore a resemblance to an elephant. Intrigued, he added eyes and a smile to the shadow, took a photograph, and shared it on social media. The positive response he received encouraged him to continue this creative endeavor. Since May 2016, he has been consistently producing shadow doodles, captivating his audience with his imaginative and playful compositions.
Bal’s artistic journey has expanded beyond social media posts. He is currently working on the Shadowology live-action film, which integrates his shadow drawings into a larger narrative. Additionally, he has published a book featuring his captivating illustrations, aptly titled “Shadowology.”
