As part of its preparations for the Sharjah Guest of Honour programme at the Rabat International Book Fair (RIBF 2025), the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) recently completed a groundbreaking art production workshop. Titled “Al-Andalus: A Futuristic Visual Simulation,” the initiative brought together six distinguished Emirati and Moroccan artists, allowing them to creatively reimagine Andalusian heritage.

For three days, the artists worked at SBA’s headquarters, where they combined historical authenticity with modern artistic techniques. Moreover, the workshop encouraged a dynamic exchange of ideas, blending digital and traditional painting with innovative graphic design. As a result, the artworks captured a fresh, contemporary perspective on Andalusian civilisation.
A Special Showcase at RIBF 2025
All the artworks produced during the workshop will be compiled into an exclusive art book. Furthermore, they will be displayed at a special exhibition in the Sharjah pavilion during RIBF 2025, which is scheduled to take place from April 17 to 27. The fair, organised by Morocco’s Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication, will serve as a global platform to highlight this exceptional collaboration.
Speaking about the project, Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, CEO of SBA, emphasized its significance, stating:
“This initiative reflects Sharjah’s commitment to reinterpreting Arab cultural heritage through contemporary creativity. Not only does art preserve history, but it also serves as a bridge for cultural exchange, allowing us to rediscover and celebrate the aesthetics that shaped our Arab civilisation.”
Additionally, he pointed out that the collaboration between Emirati and Moroccan artists strengthens artistic and cultural connections across generations. He also stressed that the project aligns with Sharjah’s cultural vision, established by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.
Moreover, under the leadership of Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of SBA, this initiative represents a valuable contribution to the Arab and global cultural landscape. The upcoming exhibition at RIBF 2025 aims to offer visitors an immersive visual journey, celebrating the legacy of Al-Andalus while imagining its influence in the modern world.
