The National Arab Orchestra from Detroit, Michigan, has inked an agreement to collaborate artistically with Sharjah’s Al Majaz Amphitheatre (SGMB affiliate), in an effort to support and preserve the rich musical heritage of the Arab world.
The National Arab Orchestra, which includes both American and Arab musicians, will take the stage at the legendary Al Majaz Amphitheatre during the upcoming season of #Lets Majaz (Hala Majaz), a cultural event that promotes peace and tolerance at the architectural landmark and monument situated in the center of Khalid Lagoon, Sharjah.
The partnership agreement with the orchestra is a part of the amphitheatre’s ongoing plans and efforts to support and celebrate genuine Arab art and culture, including its musical heritage, linked to the aesthetic movement of “tarab,” according to Tariq Saeed Allay, director-general of the SGMB, who spoke at the event. In order to revive artistic and cultural traditions, the amphitheatre has staged a number of performances and events every season since it opened, he continued.
Allay praised the orchestra’s efforts to revive the art form and memories of authentic Arab music among the diaspora while highlighting the critical role of the arts in articulating and maintaining cultural identity, heritage, and civilisation. He added that the orchestra has taken on the responsibility of raising the artistic taste of generations and introducing them to their cultural heritage.
He continued, “The orchestra is happy to support Sharjah’s initiatives to revitalize the arts in the Arab world in all of its varied forms.”
