Italian artist Paola Anziché is creating a body of work inspired by weaving and dyeing traditions in the UAE as part of the most recent Tashkeel Residency Program with Loro Piana. The Tashkeel Residency Program has enabled residencies for approximately 80 artists and designers from more than 30 countries since its initial debut back in 2008.
Tashkeel has recently announced its newest residency through a collaboration with Italian luxury textile brand Loro Piana and taking part in Italian artist Paola Anziché. Tashkeel is committed to supporting and nurturing emerging and established talent through international creative collaborations and interactions.
For a second time, Loro Piana, widely regarded as the largest cashmere producer in the world and a prominent luxury fiber firm, will collaborate with Tashkeel on a project that will last through January 2023. The two’s first project was a unique cloth with calligraphic designs made by internationally renowned artist and former Tashkeel Artist-in-Residence eL Seed in 2018.
The latest Tashkeel Artist-in-Residence and textile artist Paola Anziché from Turin, featured in the second phase of the Loro Piana partnership at Tashkeel. Her works are influenced by UAE landscapes and local culture.
“Since our launch in 2008, Tashkeel has been committed to nurturing dialogue and discourse between countries and cultures through art and design,” said Sheikha Lateefa bint Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Founder and Director of Tashkeel.
Anziché is recognized in Italy as a textile expert and artist dedicated to sustainability through recycled, ethically sourced factory off-cuts and raw fibers from Loro Piana, including wool, cashmere, silk, and lotus flower. Anziché will research the weaving and dyeing legacy of the UAE and the area during her residence, culminating in an exhibition of her eagerly awaited body of work at Tashkeel in Dubai from December 6 to January 10, 2023.
