Creating some of the world’s most innovative public sculptures, Gillie and Marc are redesigning what public art should be, spreading messages of love, equality, and conservation around the world. Referred to by the media as “the world’s most loving artists”, this artistic duo has worked side by side for over 28 years.
The artists are best known for their beloved characters, Rabbitwoman and Dogman, who tell the autobiographical tale of two opposites coming together to become best friends and soul mates. Gillie and Marc believe that art is a powerful platform to speak about love and diversity, and hence, the Rabbit and the Dog, which is an unlikely relationship, stand for diversity and acceptance through love. Their art is multi-disciplinary, paying homage to the importance of togetherness, as well as the magnificence of the natural world, and the necessity of preserving it – for we are it, and it is us.
Gillie and Marc are eco-warriors and use their artistic creativity and carved-out sculptures to raise awareness and promote conservation for the well-being of the natural environment around us. They have created the world’s largest animal sculptures of some of the most endangered animals in the world and have played an active part in celebrating inspirational women around the world, reaching for gender equality through art. With their international project Statues For Equality, they increased the number of female faces in public sculptures around the world, elevating the success of these women and creating tangible change for gender equality.
Their magnificent sculptures and paintings are present in art galleries and public sites in over 250 cities. They have won the Allens People’s Choice Award at Sydney’s iconic Sculpture by the Sea on two occasions as well as the Kids’ Choice Award in the same year. They’re Archibald Prize finalists and have won the Biennale di Chianciano in Italy, among other notable awards and accolades.
