Art Grooves, an online art forum, is holding its first physical exhibition at the Bombay Art Society in Mumbai. Twenty artists from throughout the country and abroad will display their work in a variety of styles and textures.
According to Poornima Dayal, a Mumbai-based artist and founder of Art Grooves, “although the works are not constrained by a topic, each artist is showing works that best express his or her personal style.” Art Grooves has been reaching out to a lot of artists in India and worldwide through virtual art exhibitions, contests, art meetups, and e-art catalogues since its start in early 2020, when the pandemic was still raging.
“There were no locations for budding artists to present their work because the galleries had closed. “The goal of Art Grooves was to give artists a place to present their work and have meaningful conversations with other artists,” explains Poornima.
In February 2021, it hosted its inaugural online show, which featured 22 artists from throughout India. It also issued an e-catalogue in March highlighting the work of 12 female artists.
Further she says, “Many artists have relied on online art displays to get through these trying times. Artists were quite enthusiastic and supportive. “The regular art meetups helped us initiate talks about our own works as well as the works of others, which motivated us to keep working.”
The exhibition will include works by photographers Hasrat Ali and Mallika Gurnani, as well as items from enamel artist Triveni Mahajan S collection — enamel on metal artworks and antiquities.
