The House of Innovation for Visual Arts in Nouakchott, Mauritania, was opened under the patronage of Mariam Mint Ahmed Dit Tekber, First Lady of Mauritania, and supported by the UAE Cultural Attache at the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) under the patronage of Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence.
Safiya bint Intah, the minister for social affairs, children, and families of Mauritania, Mohamed Ould Soueidatt, the minister for culture, youth, sports, and parliamentary relations of Tunisia, Dr. Hayat Qatat Al Qarmazi, the director-general of the Arab League Educational, Cultural, and Scientific Organization, and Hamad Ghanim Al Muhairi, the ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Mauritania all attended the inauguration ceremony.
Sheikha Alyazia bint Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, ALECSO’s Ambassador Extraordinary for Arab Culture, took the initiative to build the House of Innovation for Visual Arts during her visit to Mauritania in November 2021.
Over 95 pieces of art by 40 artists were on display at the occasion’s art exhibition.
The recital of verses from the Holy Quran opened the ceremony, which was then followed by the presentation of the plaque commemorating the house’s founding. The pioneering institution is a result of the organisation and Sheikha Alyazia’s collaborative efforts, Dr. Amar said later in a speech.
Al Muhairi asserted that the House of Innovation for the Visual Arts highlights the longstanding ties between the UAE and Mauritania and claimed that the UAE has given the visual arts a high priority.
He emphasised that Emirati artists have helped to promote the nation’s culture by taking part in international shows and said that the home will serve as a platform to help Mauritanian artists.
Sheikha Alyazia, the Ministry of Culture, and ALECSO were all recognised for their assistance in establishing the home by Moat Irhail, President of the Association of Young Mauritanian Plastic Artists and Supervisor of the House.
Irhail stated that the new facility will bring together Mauritanian youth who are passionate about the visual and performing arts and foster their creativity and skill.
