Josh Hernandez, a native of Los Angeles, is a remarkable artist whose love for creation has been an integral part of his life since his early years. Even as a child, he was known for filling his textbooks with doodles and constantly dreaming up his next artistic project. Today, he considers himself incredibly fortunate to have turned his passion into a profession, allowing him to pursue his creative endeavors wholeheartedly.

Upon deciding to pursue a career in graphic design rather than fine art, Josh dedicated himself to his studies and eventually earned a Bachelor of Science in Design from Arizona State University. This educational journey provided him with valuable skills and insights into the design industry, where he worked on a diverse array of projects, ranging from crafting logos to creating intricate illustrations. However, amidst his successful career in design, he felt a powerful longing to return to his first love: drawing and painting.

It was during this period that Josh decided to establish himself under the pseudonym “Mad Charcoal,” a name that encapsulates the essence of his distinctive style. His artistic repertoire encompasses a wide range of mediums, from the bold strokes of charcoal to the vibrant hues of paint and the experimental possibilities of mixed media. Within this realm, he has cultivated a particular focus on portraiture and figurative art, utilizing achromatic values as a crucial element of his compositions. By exploring the expressive potential of his subjects, Josh brings forth their depth and emotions, allowing viewers to engage with the narratives encapsulated within each artwork.

Currently residing in Phoenix, Arizona, Josh Hernandez continues to refine his craft, immersing himself in the vibrant artistic community of the city. His body of work is a testament to his immense talent for capturing the essence of his subjects through his skillful choice of medium and his deeply expressive approach. Each piece he creates invites viewers to delve into the stories embedded within, evoking a profound sense of connection and appreciation for the beauty that lies within achromatic values and the evocative power of portraiture.

Josh’s artistic journey has been one of self-discovery and embracing his unique artistic identity. With an unwavering dedication to his craft, he has found fulfillment in creating meaningful and expressive art. Through his creative endeavors, he extends an open invitation to viewers, encouraging them to forge connections with the souls that reside within his subjects. Moreover, he highlights the inherent beauty found in achromatic values and the transformative potency of portraiture. Josh Hernandez stands as an inspiration to all aspiring artists, reminding us to embrace our passions and channel them into creating art that resonates with others on a profound level.
